Trade surplus of US$1.33 billion recorded in July

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia has recorded a trade surplus of US$1.33 billion, or the highest noted in the past 19 months.

"This surplus is indeed the highest in the past 19 months, or since January 2014," the Central Bureau of Statistics' deputy for production statistics, Adi Lumaksono, stated at a press conference here on Tuesday.

He noted that this notable gain was achieved due to a surplus of US$2.20 billion in the non-oil/gas trade, although the oil/gas sector still suffered a deficit of US$870 million.

Cumulatively, the balance of trade from January to July 2015 recorded a surplus of US$5.73 billion.

In terms of volume, trade in July 2015 recorded a surplus of 30.15 million tons, driven by a surplus in the non-oil/gas sector of 30.68 million tons, while the oil/gas sector still booked a deficit of 530 thousand tons.

Exports in July reached US$11.41 billion, down by 15.53 percent from US$13.5 billion in June.

Cumulatively, the exports during the period of January-July 2015 reached US$89.76 billion, down 12.81 percent from US$102.9 billion during the same period last year.

Imports in July 2015 were down 22.36 percent to US$10.07 billion from US$15.08 billion in the same period last year.

Cumulatively, the value of imports from January to July 2015 reached US$84.03 billion, down 25.18 percent from US$104 billion recorded in the same period last year.
