REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo in his first state speech, said that he always gives support for Palestinian independence.

"Indonesia continues to support the liberation of Palestine from occupation and tyranny. We asked for all Muslims in the Middle East to lay down their weapons and reconcile for the sake of ukhuwah Islamiyah," said Jokowi.

He explained that it is in accordance with the 1945 constitution which stated that Indonesia participates in implementing world order based on freedom, lasting peace and social justice. The basic principle of Indonesian foreign policy is independent and active.

According to the constitution, Indonesia will continue to send peacekeeping forces to other countries in the world, in order to mediate the conflict and to provide leadership in regional and global norms. In this case, Indonesia will also become the leader of "Indian Ocean Rim Association" in 2015-2017.
