REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- The influential Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) described Wednesday's cabinet reshuffle as positive signal for the business sector.

Deputy chairman of Kadin for banking and financial sector Rosan Roeslani said the replacement of a number of ministers especially economics minister had given rise to new hope for the country's business sector.

The change showed that the government is set to cope with the economic slowdown, he said here on Thursday.

He said the president had taken an important step that would boost the country's business sector.

"The reshuffle carried an important message. At least it would put an end to uncertainty and rumor (about reshuffle) in the past months," he said.

Rumors about the cabinet reshuffle had created uncertainty in the past two months giving negative impact on the business sector, he added.

He said the cabinet reshuffle has created greater certainty to start "a positive trend in the business sector."

Commenting on the new figures in the cabinet, he said world class economists are needed to cope with the problems faced by the country at present.

President Joko Widodo named two senior economists to the post of senior ministers.

Former Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution was given the post of coordinating minister for economy replacing Sofyan Djalil and one time coordinating minister for economy Rizal Ramli took over the job as coordinating minister for maritime affairs from Indroyono Soesilo.

"Darmin Nasution is a senior economist with vast experience including in the taxation and monetary affairs," Rosan said, adding, "he is certainly better able to overcome the country's present economic problem."

He said Kadin would be ready to cooperate with the government's economic team to accelerate economic growth.

The president also named new Coordinating Minister for Law, Security and Political Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who still hold the post as chief of the presidential staff .

Trade Minister Rahmat Hobel was replaced by Thomas Trikasih Lembong and Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto was replaced by Pramono Anung , a senior leader of the ruling party the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle.

Another change was in the post of the National Development Planning and Head of the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) from Andrinof Chaniago to Sofyan Djalil, former coordinating minister for economy.
