REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Economic, Sofyan Djalil, said that the government will conduct a census of cattle next year. This census was conducted to determine the number of cattle, so that there will be no more shortage of supply.

“We still have to evaluate the policy. Related to the problem of beef supply, we need to conduct census of cattle in this country,” Sofyan said, Tuesday (11/8).

The price of beef is now reaching Rp 140 thousand per kg due to lack of supply. It was because the government cut the quota of beef imports, while domestic supply was insufficient.

Sofyan said the government has set a short step to resolve the high price of beef. He assigned Bulog to intervene the market to sell beef at a cheaper price.

"Bulog has reserve of beef. They have been assigned to go to the market," said Sofyan.
