REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CAIRO -- Two senior police officers and a recruit were wounded in an explosion near a court in Egypt's capital Cairo on Monday, the Egyptian Interior Ministry said.
"The three belong to Cairo Traffic Department and they have been on duty at the time of the blast," a police statement said, while the authorities are currently combing the area to find the perpetrators.
Over the past two days, four policemen have been killed and several others injured in various attacks in the provinces of Suez, North Sinai and Fayoum.
Monday's blast comes on the same day when Cairo Criminal Court sentenced 10 self-proclaimed Islamists to death over "forming a terrorist cell targeting police and military men and premises as well as Copts to spread disorder and undermine the security the society."
The court delayed the verdict for other 48 co-defendants, including Mohamed al-Zawahri, brother of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al- Zawahri, to Sept. 27.
Egypt has witnessed anti-government armed attacks that have killed hundreds of police and army men since the military removed former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests.
The crackdown on Morsi's supporters has since left more than 1, 000 of them killed and thousands more jailed, while Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood group was blacklisted as "terrorist."
Most of the anti-government attacks were claimed by the "Sinai State" militant group, a Sinai-based affiliate of the Islamic State regional militant group.
The massive ongoing security operations in the Sinai Peninsula have killed hundreds of militants as part of the country's "war against terrorism."
