REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan) will be ready to launch a new satellite under the name Lapan A2. The satellite that was made in Bogor, West Java, will be launched by PSLV (as piggy back) on 20th August 2015 in India. This satellite was the first satellite designed and integrated in Indonesia.

"There are three things that will be done from this satellite," said Deputy Space Flight Technology Lapan, Rika Andiarti, in Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (7/8).

The first, the satellite that will be aired at an altitude of 650 Kilometers, can do marine monitoring by using Automatic Identification System (AIS). She explained that all boats data in the sea will be identified, unless the boats turn off its AIS system.

The satellite can also do mapping through digital camera. So that it can take pictures in all areas in Indonesia.

“Because it will be in equatorial orbit. We can receive information 14 times a day,” she explained.

The components of the satellite was still using imported products from different countries. However, the production was done in Indonesia.

This satellite that weights 70 kilograms was a project from 2010. Actually, it had been completed over two years ago.

“But we waited for the Indian satellite project to be finished,” she said`
