REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) to address single candidate in local elections causes some pros and cons. The Chairman of Commission III of House of Representatives (DPR), Azis Syamsyudin said that Perppu of election is not required.
It is considered as a not appropriate decision, because the election law is already quite clearly set the elections. He said the election law is essentially forced, so it cannot be changed for the sake of one group or certain parties.
The election law stated that if there is only one pair of candidates in a region, then the election will be posponed until 2017. “So that Perppu are not required,” he added, at Senayan, Monday (3/8).
Meanwhile, the head of the law firm of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Sigit Widodo, said that the election law should not prevent the people’s right in choosing their leader.
It is because; some regions may have an only candidate who has powerful influence. So there is no opponent who dares to compete. ''So we want its direction changed,” he said.
