President Jokowi to visit Meulaboh

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to visit Meulaboh district in Indonesia's westernmost province of Aceh on Thursday.

In the company of First Lady Iriana, Aceh Governor Zaini Abdullah, and numerous ministers, the head of state is set to leave Banda Aceh for Meulaboh at 9 a.m. West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).

While in Meulaboh, President Jokowi will visit several areas, including the fishermen villages.

The president and his entourage arrived in Banda Aceh on Wednesday night on a three-day working visit to celebrate Idul Fitri, locally known as Lebaran, with the local community of Aceh province.

Aceh Governor Abdullah, his wife, and several regional leaders were present to welcome the president at the Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Force Base at 10:10 p.m. local time.

"The president will attend takbiran (the final night of the fasting month) at the Great Mosque of Baiturrahman in Banda Aceh and will perform Idul Fitri ritual prayers before proceeding to West Aceh," spokesman of the regional administration Ali Alfata noted here.

During his visit, Jokowi is being accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economy Sofyan Djalil and Minister for Agrarian Affairs and Head of National Land Office Ferry Mursyidan Baldan.

Alfata remarked that the president will be in Aceh on a working visit until Friday.

During his stay in Aceh, known as an Islamic stronghold, the president and his entourage will visit Meulaboh in West Aceh and Banda Aceh in the provincial city.
