DOD: Coalition airstrikes destroy major vehicle bomb factory of ISIS

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON -- US and partner-nation military forces continued to conduct airstrikes against the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) forces in Syria and Iraq over the past two days, during which five vehicle-born improvised explosive devices and a factory producing these weapons of the terror group in Iraq's Ramadi were destroyed, the US Department of Defense (DOD) said on Wednesday.

According to a DOD statement, during the period, fighter and bomber aircraft conducted a total of 16 airstrikes in Syria and 17 airstrikes in Iraq.

Besides the weapon factory, airstrikes in Iraq's Huwayjah, Kirkuk, Mosul, Tal Afar, Fallujah and Ramadi also destroyed seven IS tactical units, five IS vehicles, 14 IS fighting positions, seven IS staging areas, two IS buildings, two IS heavy machine guns, an IS mortar and an IS anti-aircraft artillery weapon.

Meanwhile, airstrikes in Syrian regions of Aleppo, Hasakah, Raqqah, Tal Abyad, Dayr Az Zawr and Kobani destroyed 10 IS tactical units, 27 IS staging areas, five IS fighting positions, two IS checkpoints, two IS artillery weapons, an IS bunker, an IS tunnel entrance and an IS vehicle-born improvised explosive device, the statement said.

Coalition nations conducting airstrikes in Iraq include the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Coalition nations conducting airstrikes in Syria include the United States, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the statement, since the beginning of the air campaign last August, the coalition forces have carried out more than 5,200 strikes in Syria and Iraq over IS targets.
