REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The energy and mineral resources ministry and state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina launched the operation of 8 gas infrastructure projects.
The infrastructure projects are important for the welfare of the people, Oil and Gas Director General I Gusti Nyoman Wiratmadja Puja said when inaugurating a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) depot in Tanjung Periok, Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/7).
The projects would encourage the people to use gas instead of oil as the country could not continue to rely only on oil, the reserves of which have been dwindling, he said.
Currently most people still rely on petroleum as the main fuel, Puja said.
"The projects, built by Pertamina, would be a milestone to promote gas fuel," he said.
He said he appreciated the programs of Pertamina to strengthen the country's security through the gas infrastructure projects.
"Our energy security would be better in the future," he stated.
Pertamina's president director Dwi Soetjipto said the infrastructure projects would contribute to the country's self sufficiency in energy supply .
"Development of the gas infrastructure has become a priority in creating gas self sufficiency in the country," Puja explained.
He said currently Indonesia is often facing shortage in supply of oil fueled energy, therefore, it is time the country to turn to gas fuel.
The 8 projects are gas filling station in Pajajaran Bogor, LNG tanks filling facility at the complex of PT Badak NGL - in Bontang and gas fuel filling station in Cililitan, Jakarta, relocation of LPG tank and addition of LPG Storage Depot in Tanjung Priok, gas filling station in Solo Baru, aviation fuel (avtur) pipeline from the Tanjung Perak oil fuel terminal to the Juanda airport in Surabaya, and gas filling stations in Pulogadung and Margonda, Depok.
