REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The head of the National Standardization Agency (BSN) Bambang Prasetya said it would revise the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for female sanitary napkin products. It was following up the findings of the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) related to the content of hazardous chemical, chlorine.
"SNI for sanitary napkins will be revised. Tailored to the needs of society and technology," said Bambang via short messages received by ROL on Wednesday, July 8.
According to him, it was already time for standardization to be revised. Moreover, SNI sanitary napkins have been published since 2000 and there has been no revision until now.
He mentioned that SNI of sanitary napkins set quality image as a reference absorption for each sanitary napkins producer. It was time for the basic standard rules to be revised so it could adjust to the current conditions.
Previous, YLKI had conduct the sample test of sanitary napkins and pantyliner all brands of sanitary napkins for women in Indonesia. The results were quite surprising. It reported all brands of sanitary napkins were using chlorine chemicals which commonly used as bleaching paper and clothing with different content level.
