REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta police are still investigating the fire that occurred on Sunday morning in a lounge at Terminal 2E of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"We carried out an onsite investigation yesterday, but it could not be done thoroughly as the location was still hot from the blaze. We will try again today. We hope the investigation can be closed in the next one or two days," Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Inspector General Tito Karnavian said here on Tuesday.

He added that they will open the police line soon after the onsite investigation is completed so that renovations can begin.

He also expressed hope for the renovations to be completed as soon as possible as the number of passengers will increase ahead of Eid.

Following the investigation, the police will determine whether the fire was a result of negligence, caused by a short circuit, or was arson.

Karnavian further noted that he had coordinated with the leadership of airport operating company PT Angkasa Pura II to set up a special team and a procedure to overcome incidents such as fires at airports.

While no casualties were reported, a number of flights had to either be canceled or delayed for hours due to the fire on Sunday morning.
