Priyo Pujiwasono wants to dedicate himself to the homeland

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Leadership candidates for Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was enlivened by people from various backgrounds. Even one of candidates who passed the previous administration selection was a doctoral graduate of economic development and finance from George Washington University (GWU).

The person was Priyo Pujiwasono, Indonesia citizens who now live in Washington, USA. He admitted to participate in the selection because he wanted to dedicate his knowledge for the homeland.

"It's been 18 years I live in Washington, I think it is time to dedicate myself to the homeland with all the knowledge that I have," said Priyo when contacted by ROL, on Tuesday, July 7.

A man who worked as an independent consultant for American law firm also admitted to feel moved to register after getting an email invitation from a spokesman for the selection committee team (pansel) of KPK, Betty Alisjahbana.

Betty invited him to participate enrolling as a form of call by the motherland to the Indonesian citizens in other countries. He also claimed to always follow the discussions if the commission officials came to US. This increasingly made him attracted to participate as one part of the anti-corruption agency.

Besides, he also had experience working with the US legal institutions. Together with Indonesia friends who were there, he also formed an anti-corruption watchdog organization called KBRI Watch. He assessed that his experiences were sufficient to prove himself want to participate dedicating himself to the homeland.

"My experience both from discussion or participation in the anti-corruption agency here make me motivated to try to participate," he said.

After graduating post-doctoral graduate from GWU in 2005, he then took additional courses to graduate doctorate in development economics. Although other rivals considered more experienced in the case of anti corruption, he was optimistic that he could pass the next selection.

Together with 194 other candidates, he will undergo the second phase of the selection process on Wednesday tomorrow, July 8. The next test was a handover that self-description papers and writing papers directly where the theme will be determined tomorrow by the selection committee team.
