REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG -- A total of 6.5 million passengers are predicted to fulfill the Soekarno-Hatta airport in Eid season 2015. The passenger surge occurred following the Eid celebrations that accompanied by the holiday season.
"All airports have to be prepared to handle such surges," said Transportation Minister Ignatius Jonan when conducted unannounced inspections related to the readiness of Eid holiday, on Friday, July 3, at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang.
Jonan asked Soekarno-Hatta readiness to welcome such surges. He said, about 67 percent of travelers were predicted going through Soekarno-Hatta airport.
"So, if Soekarno-Hatta ready, the readiness possibility of all airports was the same," said Jonan.
Welcoming Eid homecoming, Jonan asked Angkasa Pura II to prioritize security and safety of passengers. He said, the airport should also be proactive in maintaining the safety of passengers.
"It better delay than safety of passengers is threatened," said Jonan.
Jonan said that there was no difference in the security system at the homecoming 2015 with last year. Nevertheless, he said, security was alerted of this season should still be better off with last season.
"The inspection should also be more rigorous, because there is an increase of 3-4 percent," said Jonan.
Jonan explained that he did not know the exact number of flights that were ready to transport the Eid travelers, including the number of additional aircraft which alerted by the airline. But he predicted that the passengers start going to fulfill the airport starting next Monday.
Meanwhile, Jonan claimed he will continue to monitor the readiness of airports to serve passengers during this Eid season. He said, the Transportation Ministry will regularly conduct unannounced inspections until reverse flow season was finished.
