REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Korea Tourism Organization Jakarta Office (KTO Jakarta) will hold Familiarization Trip (Famtrip) for the Indonesian media to promote "Korea Tourism is Safe from MERS" at the end of July.

KTO Jakarta recorded that after the occurrence of MERS virus outbreak in Korea, foreign tourists who canceled his visit to Korea reached 130,000 people during June. And among which there were approximately 2,000 Indonesian tourists who canceled a visit to Korea. Therefore, Famtrip was organized with the aim to remove Indonesian tourist’s fear of MERS infection when visiting Korea.

"Because the person who can prove that Korea is safe from MERS is the third party, not from the Korea itself. Later, the media could prove directly to come to Korea," said Oh Hyonjae, Director of KTO Jakarta on Wednesday night, July 1, at the Embassy of Republic Korea, Jakarta.

Oh explained, Famtrip will be accompanied by staff from Health Ministry of Indonesia and Infectious Diseases Doctor. As an expert, they could ascertain directly from the field that Korea completely safe from MERS.

A place that will be covered was usually a favorite destination of foreign tourists and had returned crowded so it could show the image of "Safe Korea Tourism" to Indonesia tourists.

"A total of 1,090,000 foreign tourists, who visited Korea for the past month when the outbreak of MERS virus case, were safe from infection," said Oh.

With no recent discovery of MERS infection cases, Oh added, it showed that the current issue of MERS has entered a phase of decline.

Famtrip will be held in July because of the rainy season in Korea was estimated will expire at the end of July. So, most likely the South Korean government and WHO will issue a statement that the MERS case in Korea has ended and there was no risk of further infection.
