REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The progress of the construction of the power plant with a capacity to produce 35 gigawatts of electricity is on schedule, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said.

"Thank God, the project is progressing according to plan, in terms of planning and funding. Some of the working parts have reached the construction phase, as well," the minister said here on Monday.

Although this new national program is only some six to seven months old, it has made significant progress, Said affirmed.

The government believes that the supply of such energy will be able to raise the economic growth rate to 6.7 percent.

"Therefore, the development of electricity should be increased 8.8 percent, and the electrification ratio should be at least 97.4 percent," he emphasized.

Data obtained from state-owned electricity firm PLN revealed that in the government-launched power plant project to produce 35.5 gigawatts of electricity, the construction phase has reached the 7.4 gigawatts stage.

Of all the phases of construction, PLN will be responsible 4.2 gigawatts, while the Independent Power Producer (IPP), 3.2 gigawatts.

In the planning stage, PLN will work on 10.2 gigawatts and the IPP, 25.3 gigawatts.

The construction is being carried out in a number of places such as Sumatra (2,586 megawatts), Kalimantan (981 megawatts), Java-Bali (2,972 megawatts), Nusa Tenggara (276 megawatts), Sulawesi (479 megawatts), Maluku (50 megawatts), and Papua (68 megawatts).
