REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The free visa policy, which has been implemented for the citizens of 30 countries this year, will have a positive impact on the tourism industry in Indonesia, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated.
"Actually, I have signed a free visa policy for 30 countries several weeks ago. I think it will have a positive impact on the country's tourism industry," President Jokowi remarked while presiding over a limited cabinet meeting at the presidential office here on Wednesday.
However, Jokowi noted that breakthrough efforts are still necessary to achieve a significant growth in the tourism industry.
"Thus, the major increase in tourism can generate fresh revenue for the state," Jokowi explained.
Earlier, Tourism Affairs Minister Arief Yahya stated that the free visa policy has become an important step to help Indonesia to achieve its target of tourist arrivals.
According to Yahya, the tourism ministry will continue to implement strategic and effective measures to realize the target of foreign tourist arrivals and domestic tourist travels that have been set by the government.
