REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Taufik Kurniawan appreciated the efforts of the government's economic team to stabilizes the rise in food prices during the holy month of Ramadan.

"We appreciate the efforts made by Jokowi's economic team to stabilize the prices of food products," Kurniawan said here on Wednesday.

He added that he appreciated the government's efforts to ensure the availability of goods and maintain the stability of prices, especially those of the nine essential commodities, ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan and Idul Fitri celebrations.

In addition, he pointed out that Trade Minister Rahmat Gobel had issued an import permit for 29,000 cattle heads to stabilize the price of beef during Ramadan and Idul Fitri celebrations.

The minister also prepared Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 71 of 2015 concerning stipulations on storage of essential goods.

The regulation, he noted, can ensure the availability of commodities and stability of food prices during Ramadan.

"I hope that food prices are stable during Ramadan and Idul Fitri celebrations," he remarked.

Moreover, Kurniawan urged the government to prepare appropriate measures to maintain food prices.

"The economic team should be appreciated, especially the Ministry of Trade," he emphasized.

Furthermore, a member of Commission IV of the DPR, Fadly Nurzal, appreciated the government's efforts to stabilize food prices, as well.

Nurzal also asked the trade minister to implement strategic measures to maintain stability in food prices, especially before Idul Fitri celebrations.

According to the DPR member, the current prices of food were stable with insignificant hikes.
