Govt should take a firm stance on territory violations

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Related to the territory violations that occurred in Ambalat, North Borneo, the military observers of Padjadjaran University, Muradi assessed that the government should be able to take a firm stance on the matter. The firmness could be any reactive measures for territory violations committed by neighboring country.

"The public need firmness of the government’s attitude. Yes, if they (Malaysia) still want to do that again, so we’ll attack them,'' said Muradi when contacted by ROL on Tuesday, June 23.

Muradi also agreed with the attitude shown by Defence Minister, Ryamizard Ryacudu, related to the territory violation in Ambalat. Previously, Ryamizard admitted, the TNI has done various ways to fortify the border regions, including alerting a number of fighter planes in Makassar. However, Ryamizard affirmed, if it was still breached, it was not impossible that government would take a firm action.

Furthermore, Muradi explained, the choice of attitude was related to the shift of defense doctrine system which was owned by Indonesia. If in the past, the doctrine system adopted by Indonesia was more defensive, but now the system adopted by Indonesia was deterrence or give dither effect on countries in the region.

The shift of doctrine system was in line with the vision of the world’s Maritime axis carried by the government of Jokowi-JK.

"The shift of the doctrine system also indicates that Indonesia is serious in realizing the vision of the world’s Maritime axis," said Chairman of the Center for Political and Security Studies, Padjadjaran University.

In addition, the shift of the doctrine system to dither effect was one of which is shown by the presence of a number of procurement and modernization of the Primary Weaponry Defense System (Alutsista). It became part to show Indonesia's seriousness in upholding and realizing the vision of Maritime axis.
