REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government will deliberate over the request of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) for five more ministerial posts, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said.

"It is not a matter of whether we will agree to it. We will discuss it," Kalla stated at the Vice Presidential Office here on Tuesday evening.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has yet to discuss the request, he added.

The vice president further noted that all sides given ministerial authorization have expertise in the sectors they chair.

"They are all professionals. While some of them are from political parties, others are from various institutions. Those from political parties are also professionals," he pointed out.

On Monday night, Deputy Secretary General of the PDIP Achmad Basarah had expressed hope that the president would provide a greater chance to professionals of the party to hold ministerial posts in the working cabinet.

The PDIP's request for more ministerial positions comes at a time when President Jokowi is evaluating the performance of his ministers and there is a call for a cabinet reshuffle.
