Indonesia border regions to be monitored by drones

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The sovereignty of the border region was often threatened. Therefore, the government planned to increase surveillance.

Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), Tubagus Hasanuddin said, the surveillance will use quite advanced technology.

"We will use the drones," he said in a discussion entitled 'Maintaining Sea Region Sovereignty of Republic of Indonesia’ in the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta on Monday, June 22.

Currently, the planned of drones use was going through the stage of procurement. The procurement process was also through the consideration process for coverage and the number of drone needed.

With the drones which were equipped with a camera, he added, is expected to increase surveillance of territorial violations in the border region.

In addition, currently also being made is strengthening effort of Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel. Strengthening the military on the border is planned to include the increase in the budget, the addition of personnel and the weaponry.
