REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Constitutional Law Expert of Parahyangan University, Asep Warlan Yusuf, said the existence of jurist remains important in the composition of the future leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). However, according to him, the entire leaders of KPK should not have a legal background.

"The availability of jurists in the composition of KPK’s leadership are remains important, but it should not be all of them. Preferably, the composition of KPK’s leadership should be combined. Among individuals who have a legal background with no legal background must be balanced,” said Asep when contacted by ROL, on Monday, June 22.

The existence of jurists, he said, was important for the smooth process of law enforcement for various cases handled by KPK. However, given the broad spectrum of corruption cases, the individual backgrounds of other professions were also urgently needed.

"The shape and character of corruption cases now are increasingly diverse. Not everything could be touched directly with the legal approach. There must be other disciplines approach to resolve the cases, "he said.

Asep suggested some background profession and science that could be used as guidelines for preparing the composition of KPK’s leadership. According to him, the profession of government management experts, asset management experts, administration management experts, financial experts and information technology (IT) experts, could be considered.

"It could be prepared by placing two legal experts while three other people from various professional backgrounds. Or three lawyers, while the rest are the financial management experts and experts in asset management, and so on. Hopefully KPK in the future could resolve the corruption cases thoroughly," he added.

According to a spokesman of KPK’s Selection Committee Team (Pansel), Betti Alisjahbana, until Monday, there were 182 people officially registered as KPK’s leader’s candidates. Among of them, the jurists still dominated the overall number of registrants.
