Aru's human trafficking investigation leads to another suspect

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- Police investigators are still processing the charges against eight human trafficking suspects on the Aru island involving PT. Pusaka Benjina Resourcer (PBR).

"It is in the process of preparing their dossiers that would soon be handed over to the prosecution office," Adj. Comr Herold Huwae, chief of the Aru police, said here on Monday (15/6).

If the prosecution office declared the dossiers complete, the suspects would be sent with the dossiers to court to start trial, Herold said.

The trial would be held at the Tual district court, he said.

Originally there were seven suspects but investigation led to the arrest of another suspect bringing the number to eight, he said.

Police already confiscated five units of PT. PBR's, fishing ships which allegedly had been used to transport the Myanmar, Cambodian and Thai crew who were allegedly treated as slaves by the fishery company.

Four of the suspects are Thais including Hatsaphon Phaet Jakreng the skippers of the KM. Antasena 141 and Boonsom Jaika, the skipper of the KM. Antasena 311.

The remaining four are Indonesians including executives of PT PBR Hermanwir Martino, and Mukhlis Ohoitenan who were arrested by police on 8 May, 2015.

The other suspects including Surachai Maneephong, Somchit Korraneesuk , respectively skippers of the Antasena 309, and the Antasena 838 Yongyut N. were arrested on 11 May 2015.

"We will accelerate the process of preparing the dossiers that they could be handed over soon to the prosecution office," Herold said.

The human trafficking case has attracted internaitonal attention.
