Cabinet Secretary: President to carry out duties as usual

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo will carry out his state duties as usual, despite the upcoming nuptials of his eldest son in Solo, Central Java, Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said here on Tuesday.

"The president will conduct all activities as usual. He has assistants to help him deal with tasks," he stated after a limited cabinet meeting at the president's office.

According to Widjajanto, he could even hold a cabinet meeting in Solo if required.

"The president will continue to work as usual as even a limited cabinet meeting could be held there (in Solo) if needed," he remarked.

President Joko Widodo left his office after holding a limited cabinet meeting at 1:45 p.m. for Halim Perdanakusuma Airport to go to Solo, his hometown, for his son's wedding.

The meeting that day was attended by Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Minister of National Development Planning Andrinof Chaniago, and Energy Minister Sudirman Said.

On Monday, the head of state had confirmed that he would continue to carry out his state duties despite his son's wedding.

"On June 10 and June 11, I will run the government from Solo. I will continue working in Solo for two days. I hope for blessings from all people of Indonesia," he told newsmen, adding that one of the things he would do was signing letters.

President Joko Widodo's eldest son Gibran Rakabuming is scheduled to marry Selvi Ananda on Thursday.
