Ahok blames previous governors for not building MRT

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor,  Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said over the past 28 years the rail-based transport, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) was never built because it takes long development. He said whoever governor in charged not bother to build it.

"In fact I thought why MRT did not built on the past 28-year, because political position (as governor) only five years. This development took more than five years," said Ahok nickname of Basuki at City Hall Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 9.

He said that even without the construction, the traffic jam will continue to grow in any road in Jakarta. He admitted, vehicle population in Jakarta has increased.

"You did not do anything the traffic jam will grow anyway. The population is already 17 million vehicles in Jakarta. We build any roads will not be completed unless you build a rail-based mass transit," said former politician of Gerindra party.

Construction of the MRT is targeting to be completed in 2018 for the south corridor heading to north, on the first stage. In the first stage there were 13 MRT stations which connect between Lebak Bulus towards circle of Hotel of Indonesia (Bundaran HI).

In between Lebak Bulus, Fatmawati, Cipete Kingdom, Haji Nawi, Blok A, Blok M, Singamangaraja, Bundaran Senayan, Istora, Bendungan Hilir, Setiabudi, Dukuh Atas and Bundaran HI. The track which built for the first phase was different, there was the use of underground lines and some were using the kite lines. For underground way i.e. from Bundaran Senayan until Bundaran HI has a length of 5.9 kilometers.
