REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA -- Some 14 hotspots, which have a high risk to trigger wildfires, were detected in Penajam Paser Utara district, East Kalimantan Province.
"We have recorded 14 hotspots, which have a high potential to trigger fires. So, we urge the public to stay on alert for any possibility of plantation fires," Yahya, the acting head of Penajam Paser Utara, stated here Monday.
The 14 hotspots are located in Gunung Setelang in Penajam sub-district and Sepaku sub-district.
During the 2014-2015 period, 20 wildfires occurred mostly due to land-clearing activities using fires and cigarette butt litters.
Indonesia is experiencing a dry season since late May 2015.
