REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- The Tourism and Culture Office of Batam city, Riau Islands province, is establishing cooperation with the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru to open a tourism information center in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
"The consulate will use the information center to promote Indonesian tourism, trade, and investment potentials in Johor Bahru," Head of the Tourism and Culture Office of Batam Yusfa Hendri said here on Wednesday.
These promotional activities will involve displaying the potentials, especially those of cities adjacent to and with direct flights to Johor Bahru, including Batam.
Hendri added that the office will use the information center to fully promote Batam's tourism potentials to Malaysians, especially the Johor Bahru community, since the number of Malaysian tourists visiting Batam is still relatively low.
"The number of foreign tourists from Malaysia is only 13 percent of the total number of foreign tourists visiting Batam," he pointed out.
The office will also bring a cultural delegation to showcase Batam's arts and culture at the information center.
Moreover, Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru Iwa Mulyana stated that medium-, small- and micro-scale entrepreneurs from Batam and other cities can use the information center to promote their products.
"Batam is the priority as it is close to Johor Bahru, and we have explored the possibility of establishing cooperation with Johor Bahru," Hendri remarked.
