REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The House of Representatives (DPR) has targeted to complete the draft law on the revision of Law Number 22/2001 on Oil and Gas this year, a lawmaker said.

"Deliberations over a draft law should not exceed two terms of sittings. So it will not take too long time to complete. We aim to accomplish it this year," Deputy Chairman of Commission VII, which oversees energy and mineral resources affairs, of the DPR Widya Yudha stated here on Friday.

He added that the formulation of the draft law was initiated by the DPR, but the government also had the obligation to provide inputs.

In addition, the draft law on the revision of the law on oil and gas has been included in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) for completion this year, Yudha affirmed.

The inclusion of the draft law in the Proglegnas was intended to encourage all sides---the government and the DPR---to prepare materials to deliberate over the bill.

"So the government should work in sync with its internal sides. Members of the DPR should also carry out their responsibilities. We hope there is an approval in the coming months," he remarked.

If the subject is discussed in a plenary session of the parliament, the speaker will write to the president asking for relevant ministries meet with the DPR.

"One should not think that this process will take years to complete. It is not that long. What should be awaited for long is the (parliamentary) plenary session," Yudha noted.
