REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The absorption of the budget by ministries is expected to be able to trigger greater economic growth in the second quarter of 2015 and later, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said.

"Thank God, according to the report I received today, the budget absorption of the 15 biggest ministries and institutions has been realized as of May 15," he stated shortly before a plenary cabinet meeting began here on Tuesday.

President Joko Widodo further noted that the absorption of this year's state budget had been higher than that in the corresponding period in 2014. "May this condition be able to trigger better economic growth in the second quarter of this year and even later," he remarked.

The head of state asked the cabinet members whose ministries remain low in absorbing their budgets to improve their performance to ensure better economic growth in the second quarter.

In the first quarter of 2015, the Indonesian economy grew 4.71 percent year-on-year, down 0.18 percent from the 5.14 percent recorded in the same period last year.

Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro presented the details of the budget absorption of various ministries at the cabinet meeting.
