REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) will hold a dialogue with three ASEAN community councils to actualize the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration and principles in the ASEAN community.

"The dialogue is vital to ensure the integration of human rights values into the documents of the ASEAN community's vision for 2025," Indonesian representative for AICHR Rafendi Djamin said here on Monday.

The dialogue will be held on May 25 and 26 and will be attended by chairpersons of the three ASEAN community pillars, the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, as well as relevant ASEAN sector agencies.

The 18th AICHR regular council was held in Jakarta from May 6 to 9 to set up the AICHR 2016-2020 five-year work plan, to discuss the implementation of the AICHR's priority programs for 2016, and to deliberate over human rights issues, Djamin noted.

At the meeting, the representative affirmed Indonesia's views and position regarding the death penalty that was executed recently in the country.

During the regular meeting of the AICHR with the secretary general of ASEAN, Indonesia reaffirmed the importance of the establishment of the Human Rights Division of the ASEAN Secretariat to encourage AICHR and ASEAN agencies related to human rights issues.

In this regard, Indonesia supports the placement of the division with the ASEAN Political-Security Community of the ASEAN Secretariat.
