REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A political observer from the Center for Political Studies, University of Indonesia (UI Puskapol) Sri Budi Eko Wardhani said Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should know the period of time he had to resign from the nomination of chairman. According to him, SBY should have held the position of Chairman of the Board of Supervisor, not the chairman of the Democrat Party.

"I think SBY should not be a chairman, he can just become chairman of the board of supervisor. In that way, he can campaign and keep control party interests," he told ROL on Thursday, May 7.

Moreover, SBY judged as someone who could bring good to the party that will hold a congress on 11-13th May. The reason, this party had held political power on SBY presidency era so it made the internal party became weak.

It evidenced by the many cadres who turned out to be convicted of corruption. SBY role as supervisors could make the Democrat Party ahead of the internal side. To uphold the values of democracy within the party, SBY should see that other members who also have rights. There are still Marzuki Alie and Mubarak or other figures in the party who have the integrity to advance party either internal or external side.

According to him, to keep party Democrat, SBY should do transition of power with a way that he not become chairman. However, he considered support for SBY not unstoppable. The central and regional cadres largely support the 6th Indonesian President to become the number one in the party.
