REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A research conducted by Save the Children in 10 provinces in Indonesia has revealed that some 93 percent of children have experienced violence either in schools or at homes.
"Negative emotions have become part of majority of the Indonesian children's lives," Ratna Megawangi, the founder of the Indonesian Heritage Foundation (IHF), stated here recently.
Another study conducted by Plan International in 18 provinces in 2005 had concluded that schools can be dangerous places for children as several forms of violence can happen there.
Violence against children can have serious repercussions by making them apathetic, demotivated, restless, insecure, and apprehensive.
She emphasized that schools should be developed to become pleasant places for children.
Fears triggered due to the school environment can hinder optimal brain development in children.
Hence, she urged all parents to be caring and compassionate while educating their children and help them to manage their emotions.
