REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Slovakia have agreed to intensify relations between the citizens of the two countries through dialog and cooperation in the field of education.

"Indonesia and Slovakia have agreed to increase people-to-people contacts through cooperation between universities and study tour programs, among others," Director General of America-Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dian Triansyah Djani, remarked in a press statement received here on Tuesday.

She met the director for political affairs of the Slovakian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Ubomir Rehak at the fourth RI-Slovakia Consultation Forum here on Monday.

Triansyah noted that the two sides also agreed to boost people-to-people relations through the 2nd Indonesia-Slovakia Interfaith dialog.

"In connection with this, the two sides have expressed optimism for the implementation of an easier process to issue Schengen visit visas to Indonesians traveling to Slovakia," she pointed out.

In the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views regarding regional and international issues of common concern such as those related to the ASEAN, European Union, and the developments in the Asian, Central European and East European regions.

Trian remarked that the two countries also agreed to lend mutual support with regard to nominations at various international organizations including Indonesia's nomination as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2019-2020.

The diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Slovakia have been established since January 1, 1992, and bilateral relations between the two countries have been marked by the visit of the Slovakian president to Indonesia in 2011.

Slovakia has invested in 12 projects in Indonesia in 2010-2014.

In the framework of increasing economic cooperation, the two countries have held joint commission meetings thrice and a business round table meeting on eight occasions.
