REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and China agree to formulate priority projects and a comprehensive strategic partnership action plan, according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received here Jakarta.
The joint decision was taken in the bilateral meeting between President of Indonesia Joko Widodo and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping during the Asian-African Conference (AAC) 2015 in Jakarta.
President Joko Widodo noted that the visit of the Indonesian delegation to China in March 2015 should be followed up in order to achieve the targets agreed upon by both countries.
One of the targets is to increase bilateral trade to reach US$150 billion.
President Xi Jinping has vowed to expand Chinese investment in Indonesia.
China is Indonesia's largest trading partner, with trade reaching US$48.23 billion in 2014. China is also the eighth-biggest foreign investor in Indonesia, with a value of US$800 million invested in 501 projects.
President Joko Widodo has invited China to participate in Indonesia's maritime infrastructure development projects, especially for deep seaport.
With regard to the tourism sector, China ranks fourth on the list of countries whose citizens visited Indonesia. In 2014, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Indonesia reached 883,725.
During the bilateral meeting, President Xi Jinping pledged to encourage Chinese to visit Indonesia in order to help the country realize its target of 10 million tourist arrivals per year.
The Chinese president is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the 60th commemoration of the AAC in Bandung, West Java.
The president will participate in the historical walk of the AAC 2015 from Savoy Homann Hotel to Merdeka Building, which has historic significance as it was the venue for the first Asian-African Summit in 1955.
