REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Imam Nahrawi said that he planned to send badminton and martial arts coaches to Suriname as part of efforts to help develop sports there.

"We just signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in various forms of sports and youth affairs. In addition, we will also send young puppet show artists to popularize the Indonesian culture in Suriname," he affirmed at his office here on Tuesday after receiving Minister of Sports of Suriname Ismanto Adna, who was flanked by his secretary Vivian Redjopawiro and adviser Soenarto Kasanwidjojo.

Minister Nahrawi welcomes the cooperation between the two countries in the sports and youth affairs sector.

"We are grateful and appreciate the visit of Sports Minister Ismanto Adna. We are proud to receive him and his delegation to strengthen communication and the relationship between the two countries," he stated.

Moreover, Minister Adna noted that he was also glad to be able to visit Indonesia, which was his ancestral land.

"A large section of people in Suriname are of Javenese descent. In view of that, I came here to increase cooperation in the field of sports and youth affairs," he revealed.

He also pointed out that both nations wished to develop sports and youth affairs together.

Following a friendly meeting and a press conference, the Indonesian minister presented his Surinamese counterpart with an agate as a souvenir.

Agate recently became a trending topic of discussion among community members in Indonesia.

"As a souvenir, I give you this agate so that our brotherhood continues to be maintained well," he remarked.
