REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Attempt to impeach Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) by his political foes in the city council would fail, a council member of the Nasdem party faction predicted.

"We would see if the result of the plenary session of the city council would be as predicted by many," chairman of the Nasdem faction Bestari Barus said here on Monday.

The majority members of the city council have used their inquiry right against the outspoken governor, over city's budget and alleged violation of ethical code and norms.

Bestari said the polemics over the city budget has been settled with the decision to use the governor regulation as the legal basis for the city budget.

"So, what else is the city council having against Ahok,?" Bestari said.

As for ethical code both sides were similarly guilty using dirty words insulting each other in a slanging match, he said.

A special committee has submitted to the leaders of the city council report of the result of the inquiry into Ahok about his alleged violation of the law and ethical code.

"The inquiry report is final. The governor is charged with breaking the law and violating ethical code and norms," chairman of the inquiry special committee Muhammad Ongen Sangaji said.

Ongen said the report is about 200 pages containing results of investigations involving a team of experts.

The report would be brought to a plenary session of the city council, he said.

"The plenary session would be held either on Wednesday or Thursday," he said.

The politician of the Hanura party, however, could not give details of the charges against Ahok.

He acknowledged that the inquiry process has yet to be followed with the mechanism of right to express opinions (HMP).

"There is still a long way to go. Even the inquiry process is yet to be wrapped up. The process of HMP also will need a special committee. We have not talked about impeachment," he said.

The city council speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi from the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle was reported not attending the inquiry committee meeting.
