REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Surabaya City Culture and Tourism Office will now reorganize the Cak and Ning (Mr. and Miss) tourism ambassador contest, after it came under fire from the city legislative assembly for scrapping it in 2015.

"We will hold the Cak and Ning contest. It is us who organize the event," Head of the Surabaya City Culture and Tourism Office Wiwik Widyanti said here on Monday.

Widyanti added that the office had coordinated with the Surabaya Cak and Ning Association. "The association has expressed its readiness. They have agreed to organize the event, so there is no problem," she affirmed.

She also denied the criticism from the city legislative council that the office had stopped organizing the event, adding that the office organized the event every year.

"We try to hold the event regularly. We have no problem with funds. We will most likely use the funds in place. With the time remaining, we are trying to make it a success," Widyanti remarked.

She further noted that the contest would be held in May, coinciding with the anniversary of Surabaya city.

When asked if the Cak and Ning contest was cancelled due to the absence of sponsors, she denied it, stating that their participation was merely to enliven the event, not as the main organizer.

The city legislative council had strongly criticized the decision to stop the contest this year as the funds were diverted to promoting tourism in Singapore.
