REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Kazakhstan has invited Indonesia to the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions to be held in Kazakh capital Astana on June 10-11, 2015, Kazakh Ambassador to Indonesia Ashkat Orazbay said.

"We have invited Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama's executive board Said Aqil Siradj to represent Indonesia in the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions," Orazbay stated here on Wednesday.

According to Orazbay, Said Aqil has expressed his readiness to attend the congress and share his views on Islam from Indonesia's standpoint.

"Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim country whose views are important for leaders of Islam and other religions. Hence, we are grateful to Indonesia for its readiness to attend the congress," he noted.

He remarked that the congress will bring together politicians and religious leaders from all over the world. They will include Muslims (Sunnis and Shiites), Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Buddhists.

"This dialog is aimed at encouraging inter-religious and cultural dialogs, strengthening mutual understanding and respect, and fostering fight against extremism that has become widespread," he pointed out.

The event has also been designed to ease "Islamophobia" that has spread after armed militants in the Middle East starting involving in violent acts.

"This dialog is a chance for global religious leaders to reject any form of anti-Islam actions and thoughts that harm world Muslims, particularly in the United States and Europe," he added.
