Export of Indonesian farm product increases 8.9 percent

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's agricultural product exports in January 2015 rose 8.9 percent to 437.4 million USD from 401.7 million USD recorded in the same month last year.

"Almost all commodities, except agricultural products, saw a decline in their exports," Minister of Trade Rachmat Gobel stated during a press conference here on Tuesday, February 17.

Among the farm commodities that recorded an increase in their exports were crude palm oil (CPO), which increased 7.1 percent; coffee, tea, and spices, which jumped 56 percent; and cocoa, which soared 17.6 percent, he revealed.

"The agricultural sector is one of the main foreign exchange earners amid the sluggish exports of other commodities," he noted.

The export of farm commodities in January 2015 accounted for 3.29 percent of the overall exports as compared to 2.78 percent in January 2014.

Meanwhile, the export of processed goods dropped 4.69 percent to 9.06 billion USD in January 2015 from 9.51 billion USD recorded in the same month last year.

Likewise, the export of mining products dropped by 16.34 percent to 1.71 USD billion in January 2015 from 2.05 USD billion recorded in January 2014.

Overall, Indonesia's exports in January 2015 reached 13.3 billion USD, down 8.1 percent from the same period last year, while its imports plummeted 15.6 percent to 12.6 billion USD.
