REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Transportation has launched an online flight approval system to improve services, openness, and transparency through technology utilization.

The integrated online system is expected to provide excellent services to all stakeholders in the aviation sector in particular and the people in general, Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan said here on Monday.

"It's a good start in order to take advantage of information technology and integrate it with the banking system," he noted.

Jonan pointed out that online flight approval has been initiated to modernize the online licensing system in the aviation industry as it requires the best safety standards.

"The airline industry is a no-fail industry," he added.

The online flight approval system has been introduced in Ministerial Regulation No. 12/2015 on Online Air Transport Licensing and Ministerial Regulation No. 13/2015 on the Implementation of Slot Time Allocation in Airports.

According to him, the online approval system was tested last week and has since been in use. However, it officially replaced the old system on February 9.

The online approval system has been named Indonesia Airspace Management System (IAMS) with features such as tracking of workflow, application status notifications, and online payment supported with 24-hour help desk facilities.

IAMS is expected to integrate all the existing systems in aviation including the ministry's Directorate General of Civil Aviation and stakeholders.

Jonan remarked that the operation of the online approval system will also be supported by various licenses, namely route license, flight permits, activities permit, general sales agent, and so on.

Moreover, the online licensing system will also be applied in other transport sectors such as land, sea, and rail transportation.

"Technology has also been utilized in financial administration and the implementation of e-offices," he added.
