REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Transportation supports the plan of the Ministry of Tourism to develop yacht tourism as one of the efforts to advance the maritime sector in the country.

"The Ministry of Tourism gets full support from the Ministry of Transportation to develop yacht tourism," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said here on Wednesday.

He said that the support constitutes the realization of the synergy between the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Tourism in the development of marine tourism, yacht tourism in particular.

So far, yacht tourism has the potential to lure yachters of the world to enter the Indonesian waters. Yachters are known to be quality tourists in terms of spending and length of stay.

He said that the support of the ministry of transportation was related to the permits for the mooring points of yachts and the development of piers and their capacity.

"The ministry of tourism has proposed to the ministry of transportation to build and increase the capacity of piers at 38 points of yacht ports," the minister said.

The ministry of tourism and its stakeholders have earlier developed 18 routes of yachts from Papua to Sabang in Sumatra.

The development of the routes was done with organizing rally, race and sail events such as the Raja Ampat Sail, Sail Tomini, Darwin-Ambon International Yacht Rally and Sabang International Regatta which were participated in by world yachters who sailed from Phuket (Thailand) calling at langkawi (Malaysia) and ended in Sabang (Indonesia).
