REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA PEMBUANG -- The National Development Planning Agency has decided to develop Sigintung Seaport, located in Seruyan Hilir sub district, Seruyan district, Central Kalimantan province, into an industry area.

"Sigintung seaport's location makes it very strategic, as it directly leads into the Java Sea," head of Seruyan's Planning and Development Agency Haryono said here Wednesday.

He added that the seaport is only 20 kilometers away from Kuala Pembuang city and therefore goods flow in Central Kalimantan can be accelerated.

"This will boost the economic growth of Central Kalimantan, especially Seruyan," Haryono added.

Besides being an industry area, the Sigintung Seaport will also function as a crude palm oil storage seaport for companies in Central Kalimantan.

"A railway line has also been planned at the multi-purpose seaport. The provincial administration is currently developing Sigintung Seaport," Haryono pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Communication and Information Office of Seruyan, Pincianto, stated that the government has allotted Rp25 billion (about US$1,983,555) for the construction of the seaport.

"The construction of the seaport and supporting facilities such as terminals is expected to be completed by 2017," Pincianto noted.
