REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Police Watch (IPW) forces President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to install Budi Gunawan as Police Chief immediately. IPW expects the inauguration will be conducted after President visits ASEAN countries.

Presidium Chairman of IPW, Neta S Pane, said Jokowi had to fight for Budi Gunawan. "Jokowi has recommended Budi Gunawan to parliament. If he doesn't want to be called as a loser, Jokowi should install Budi Gunawan," Pane said on Wednesday, February 3.

He also argued that Jokowi must be consistent and held the constitution. The parliament has approved Budi Gunawan as Police Chief. Thus, his inauguration will be legitimate.

President, he said, must also bow to law, including presumption of innocence. Based on Law No. 2/2002 on Indonesian Police, no article states that a suspected candidate cannot be installed as Police Chief.
