REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- House of Representatives will form a working group to evaluate the company with the biggest mining operations in the country, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI). The parliament considers government's agreement with PTFI has violating the laws.

The Speaker of House of Representatives, Setya Novanto, has delivered parliament's view to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. "Commission VII will form working group to evaluate Freeport," Novanto said on Tuesday, February 3.

The Golkar politician explained that the group would evaluate Freeport's contribution to Indonesian government. Freeport is expected to contribute for people in Papua. Thus, Freeport must build smelter in Papua. Novanto asked the President to urge Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to review the extension of agreement with Freeport.
