REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held the second day of meeting at the Bogor Palace here on Friday after the first one the day before with the mayors and district heads to discuss economic growth.
"Economic growth is an important thing that we have to encourage for the welfare of people in a large country like Indonesia," President Jokowi said in his opening address on Friday (23/1).
The head of state held the gathering with the mayors and district heads from part of Sumatra, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan.
He pointed out that Indonesia's economic growth in 2014 was recorded at 5.1 percent or lower than the target set at 5.3 percent.
"We hope the economic growth will not decline further, because the government has set itself a target to raise it by 5.6 to 5.8 percent this year," he noted.
Therefore, the president at the previous meeting on Thursday encouraged the city mayors and the districts heads to sustain the nation's economic growth by pressing the inflation rate in their respective areas.
Jokowi also called on the mayors and the district heads to continue to improve public services, particularly those related to licensing for investment.
