REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- Soldiers of the Indonesian Military secured the border region of Motaain in Belu district, East Nusa Tenggara province, to ensure East Timor Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao's safe passage to Oecuse district.
"We have deployed 115 personnel of Military Regional Command 1605/Belu and Military Regional Command 1618/Timor Tengah Utara, as well as of the Border Security Task Force," Deputy Commander of the Border Security Task Force Colonel Adrianus Suryo Agung Nugroho said here on Wednesday (January 21).
The VVIP security efforts taken to guard the state guest crossing the border are part of the duties of the Indonesian Military.
On account of the visit and return of East Timor Prime Minister Gusmao, troops secured border areas from Motaain to Sakato and Wini in Timor Tengah Utara.
Security efforts also involved the deployment of several personnel of the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) of the Indonesian Police, as well as of several resort police officers in the districts of Belu and Timor Tengah Utara.
"All security efforts have been carried out successfully to ensure Prime Minister Gusmao's safe return to East Timor," Nugroho affirmed.
The stable situation in East Nusa Tenggara also supported the measures and helped to ensure that Gusmao's trip to Oecuse district was smooth.
"The efforts taken by the Indonesian Military and other officers to preserve the sovereignty of the nation and to help protect the state guest cross Indonesian borders are proof of their commitment to upholding their responsibilities," Nugroho observed.
