REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMPIT -- The Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) in Kotawaringin Timur district, Central Kalimantan, has lauded President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) policy on curbing the fuel oil (BBM) mafia, according to Organda spokesman Zulkifli Nasution.

"We have to extend our gratitude to President Jokowi for his policy on repressing the BBM mafia, so that now we no longer find it difficult to obtain diesel oil. The fuel oil subsidy reduction policy was proven to have restricted the giant oil mafia's functioning," Nasution remarked here on Thursday.

Since taking charge in October last year, President Jokowi issued a controversial policy to raise fuel prices. The government then decided to lower the fuel prices on January 1, 2015.

It is planned that effective 2015, the subsidized fuel prices will fluctuate in accordance with the global oil prices as the government will provide flat or fixed subsidies.

Nasution stated that the policy will certainly cause inconvenience to Organda because if the government announced price changes every two weeks, Organda would then probably have to revise its transportation rates in case the fluctuation is significant.

Even so, he said Organda still positively views this policy as the disparity between the prices of subsidized and non-subsidized fuel could decrease potential deviation.

"Since the past, Organda wanted it to be like that. Fuels that were sold at economical prices are not an issue for us as long as the availability of supply is ensured. Therefore, we support the policy as we are able to get along without any subsidies," Nasution noted.

He stated that the Organda in Kotawaringin Timur district supported Jokowi's policy on fuel subsidy reduction as long as it is balanced with guaranteed availability of stock, so that the public faces no difficulties in obtaining fuel.
