REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The joint search and rescue (SAR) team found AirAsia QZ8501's flight data recorder (FDR) at 7:11 a.m., Monday, in the Karimata Strait waters, Central Kalimantan, stated National SAR Agency (Basarnas) Chief F. H. Bambang Soelistyo.
"I received the official report from the National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT) that the FDR, as part of the AirAsia aircraft's black box, has been discovered and retrieved," Soelistyo remarked at the Basarnas office in Kemayoran on Monday (12/1).
He explained that during recovery, the FDR was separated from the cockpit voice recorder (CVR), which is the other part of the black box.
"The FDR of the ill-fated AirAsia plane is discovered in good condition and will be investigated further by the KNKT," Soelistyo noted.
He remarked that further information concerning the FDR will be made public after it has been investigated by the KNKT.
According to him, the FDR was confirmed to have the part number "PN-2100-4043-02" and serial number "SN-000556583."
"Albeit, the FDR and CVR are parts of the black box of a plane, and they have different functions," Soelistyo noted, adding that the FDR was discovered and retrieved by four divers of the joint SAR team.
