REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) is still looking for black box of AirAsia QZ8501 in Karimata Strait. They haven't found out whether the black box is still attached to the tail section of the plane.

"We will ensure that the black box is still in the position," the Head of Basarnas, Soelistyo, said on Thursday, January 8. The search is hampered by strong currents.

Basarnas found the part of the tail of crashed AirAsia flight QZ8501 yesterday. Part of the tail of the Airbus A320-200 was spotted by teams involving divers and unmanned underwater vehicles.

It was found in an area some 30 km from the initial search area. It is buried upside down in the mud in water 30-meter deep. Despite strong sea currents, searchers managed to take photographs. The letter A appears to be painted on one piece.

Since 06:45 AM divers tried to search the black box inside the tail. However, the visibility in the waters is only 1 meter. "We are waiting for the currents to be tamed," he said.
