REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin confirmed that many foreign lecturers teach at Islamic universities in Indonesia following cooperation between his ministry and a number of education agencies in the Middle East.

In addition, some of the foreign lecturers have also been teaching at the Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren), the minister told the press at his office here on Wednesday.

"Hundreds of foreign lecturers have been teaching at higher learning institutes and in Pesantren," Saifuddin affirmed.

However, he explained that none of the lecturers taught anything related to radicalism in the country.

The religious affairs ministry is very selective in choosing foreign lecturers, Saifuddin said, adding that it also monitors what they teach.

If there are any indications that the foreign lecturers and teachers teach anything that go against national life and the state, then the religious affairs ministry will immediately respond by giving warnings or repatriating them to their home countries, the minister noted.
